It seems that the best pre-workout meal to have is basically nothing. The next time you go for a morning workout, skip breakfast and have it afterwards instead.
A study by the University of Bath in England that was published in The American Journal of Physiology found that eating before your workout can affect the amount of fat you burn.
Researchers recruited a total of ten overweight and inactive men aged 18 to 35 for the experiment.
The men were required to walk on a treadmill for an hour on two separate mornings. On one morning, they would eat a substantial breakfast before walking on the treadmill, and on the other, they would walk with an empty stomach.
Blood and tissue samples were taken at timed intervals, and the results showed that the men had lower blood sugar levels before working out when they skipped breakfast. This resulted in it more fat burnt during the walk. Because there aren’t additional sugars to burn, your body will start burning its stored fats.
Maybe a workout should be the first thing you do before indulging in your hearty breakfast.
