Being happy and healthy is one of the many responsibilities of being a mother.
Being a mother comes with many responsibilities – taking care of your kids, husband, the household and for some, even work. There doesn’t seem to be enough time to breathe, let alone time for yourself. However, taking care of your well-being – which includes making time for exercise – should be the topmost priority. Only when you are healthy and happy can you provide the best care for your family. Use these tips to achieve a more balanced life.
Work out with your kids
It is all about creativity when it comes to working out with your kids. You can set up an obstacle course to challenge you and your kids. For instance, use resistance bands to jump through, or hula hoops to crawl through. As your kids get older, sign up for races and train together. It is a good way to bond, and work towards a goal together.
#31weeks pregnant!! Not gonna lie I’ve been pretty discouraged to workout this pregnancy. It’s really hit me hard physically (sciatica and SPD) which was completely unexpected. I have been focusing on upper body and some very very low impact exercises for my lower body. – I’ve been trying to just make exercise as FUN as possible!! Yes, that means setting up obstacle courses for the boys and just ‘playing’ 😂I really do enjoy running around with the boys and -sneaking in- exercises and while we play! I prefer to have an organized exercise regime, but for the next 9 weeks I’m just rolling with the punches, listening to my body, and enjoying my boys!!! – #pregnancyworkout#fitmomsofig#fitgirlvideos#healthypregnancy#shapesquad#thirdtrimester @villageclubs
Incorporate fitness into daily life
Keeping fit does not always mean heading to the gym or completing a workout. As a mum, you might not have the privilege or time to do that on some days. Instead, play with your little ones to work up a sweat. Do a jiggly dance or play a game of catch, and you will find yourself trying to catch your breath after a few minutes.
Lead an active lifestyle
Schedule weekly outings with your family so your kids can learn that being active is a lifestyle. Be it a walk in the park or playing a sport together, these regular activities will help to inculcate the importance of fitness into your children. Eventually, your lifestyle choices will influence their future lifestyle. For example, making a conscious effort to walk instead of taking the bus will become a norm to them.

Cook your own meals
Takeaway meals are usually laden with sodium and oil, which can be really detrimental to your health. On the other hand, preparing meals can be a hassle when you’ve already got plenty on your hands. One way to counter that is to prep meals in advance. Make a huge batch for the week and store it in the freezer. All you have to do is reheat the food for a wholesome family meal each time. If you and family eat out, pick healthier alternatives. Choose dishes that are prepared via healthier methods – baked, grilled or steamed.

Plan for me time
For a balanced life, it’s important to make time for yourself. Allocate an hour of me time every week to do something you love. During this time, take your mind off other responsibilities and focus on enjoying the moment. You’re in the best position to care for your family when you’re healthy and happy, so there’s no room to feel guilty about having me time.
