Check out the magic of 500 women doing yoga and chilling out over good food at Shape Yoga 2019, Shape’s first evening yoga event.
A Saturday evening of yoga, followed by Korean rice bowl for dinner, ice cream for dessert and kombucha in a breezy outdoor space with more freebies up for grabs? Sounds too good to be true, but that happened at Shape Yoga 2019 on November 16.
Held at The Lawn @ Marina Bay, the 11th edition of Shape Yoga saw more than 500 women bonding over food and wellness with their friends and family members. On the agenda was three yoga sessions – Yin-Yang Yoga, Pranayama and Partner Yoga by Pure Yoga instructors – followed by dinner and chill-out at various lounge zones.
Participants were invited to take part in an Instagram photo contest, and hang around till late to soak in the post-yoga, feel-good vibes.
Here’s a look at the highlights.
From 5pm, Shape Yoga participants starting queuing to register. Everyone received vouchers that they could use to redeem a serving of Nuude ice cream, a Korean rice bowl from Dosirak, and a bottle of kombucha from Remedy Drinks.
Lower-calorie ice cream from Nuude
Nuude ice cream comes in four tantalising flavours that are made with less sugar and fat: Dark Chocolate & Cacao Nibs Sorbet, Alphonso Mango & Kaffir Lime Sorbet, Strawberry & Camu Berry, and Vanilla & Goji Berry. Deciding on one flavour was hard!
Interactive session with official skincare, Origins
Participants could redeem a Mega Mushroom Treatment Lotion sample from Origins, by visiting their booth to learn more about Origins skincare products.
The Dr Andrew Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom collection is one of Origins’ best-selling range. It’s formulated with a signature blend of soothing mushrooms, with reishi (lingzhi) as the active ingredient, to help calm sensitive and irritated skin, boost resilience and reduce redness.
They also tried their hands at jumbo Jenga, a block game at the Origins booth.
These ladies won sheet masks from Origins.
Chill-out zone and freebies by official yoga partner, Pure Yoga
Those who registered early had their turns lounging at the chill-out zone set up by Pure Yoga, which had bean bags, cushion chairs and even a garden swing!
By taking photos of themselves at the chill-out area, each participant received a 3-day Pure Yoga pass and an exclusive Pure Yoga tote bag.
Oat bars and discounts from official probiotics, Optibac Probiotics
Probiotics are great for gut health and overall immunity, and one sure way to get them into your diet is to take supplements.
Optibac Probiotics offers a wide range of supplements catering to different needs, such as probiotics for daily wellbeing, for women, for flat stomach (we particularly like the sound of this), for travelling abroad, and even for those on antibiotics.
Besides offering enticing product discounts at their booth, Optibac Probiotics gave away yummy oat bars to those who liked their Facebook page. Om nom nom.

Thanksgiving speech by Shape editor Estelle
At 6pm, participants got on their mats, ready to #glowwiththeflow at Shape Yoga.
Shape editor Estelle Low gave an opening speech, introducing Shape Yoga 2019 as the first evening yoga event by Shape, and thanking sponsors and participants for their support. She reminded participants to adopt the gratitude attitude that yoga cultivates: “When you are in any difficult pose later, I want you to think about how lucky you are to be here today, in good health, doing yoga with 500 other women. It is a very special moment.”
Aromatherapy ritual by Origins
Before the start of yoga, Jo Purwati, education manager at Origins, led everyone through a relaxing aromatherapy ritual, using the Origins Peace of Mind On-The-Spot Relief. They were guided to apply three pumps on their fingertips, take three deep breaths to inhale the scent, and massage the product into their temples, behind the ears and earlobes to relieve tension and tightness in the body.
The whole routine took less than 30 seconds, and set the tone for a calming yoga session ahead.
Yin-Yang Yoga to balance strength with flexibility
In line with the zen vibes, Pure Yoga instructors Henry Phua and Natasha Hashim took the stage to lead Yin-Yang Yoga, an invigorating practice combined with long-held, deep stretches to cultivate a focused and meditative mind.
The sky was cloudy that day, so there wasn’t a spectacular sunset to speak of. But if everyone’s glow could be converted to energy, the entire lawn would be shining bright.
Partner yoga that got everyone high
After a short breathing and meditation exercise, participants were ready for the last segment, partner yoga.
The instructors had such great chemistry and engaging instructions, we got lured into doing everything they suggested.
Try this new way to squat with a partner, and you’ll never go back to boring old squats again.
Here’s a test to find out who your true friends are: Rest your closest foot on top of her back while in downward dog position, side by side. You’ll get a good hip opening, and see how reliable your friend is.
Another way to stretch your hip flexors: Hold onto the people beside you while doing the lizard pose. It’s an intense feeling, but you’ll love each other more afterwards.
Doing the cobra pose by yourself is great for stretching the back, but you can deepen that stretch with a partner holding and pulling you gently from behind. Check out the shiok expressions.
Partner yoga involves lots of communication, and not taking yourself too seriously. That certainly lightened the mood further.
By the end of the yoga programme, we were all high on happy hormones.
Wholesome Korean rice bowls from Dosirak
After two plus hours of yoga, everyone made a beeline for dinner redemption: Korean rice bowls from Dosirak, a fast and healthy takeaway food concept.
Kombucha from Remedy Drinks
Everyone got a bottle of kombucha (fermented tea) from Remedy Drinks. They came in all sorts of flavours: Apple Crisp, Raspberry Lemonade, Ginger Lemon and Cherry Plum, to name a few. Remedy Drinks Kombucha is made with raw kombucha, organic ingredients and all-natural flavourings. It tastes acidic and has the mouthfeel of beer, but way healthier.
More lounging around after yoga
Everyone found their own cosy spot at the lawn to dig into their food.
Awesome prizes for photo contest winners
Shape Yoga participants could take part in an Instagram photo contest, by uploading photos of themselves at the event and using the hashtags #shapeyoga and #glowwiththeflow.
No doubt, the contestants lingered around for a chance to win attractive prizes.
At 9.15pm, emcee Carol Smith, a KISS92FM radio deejay, announced the winners, while Shape editor Estelle gave out the prizes. They were: a 2D1N stay in Superior Room at Oasia Hotel Downtown (fourth prize), a one-month Pure Yoga membership (third prize), a three-month Pure Yoga membership (second prize), and a one-year Pure Yoga membership (first prize).
On top of that, everyone went home with goodie bags containing products such as a pack of OptiBac Probiotics, a Pure Yoga microfibre towel, a Pure dry bag, a travel-sized Eversoft Beauty shower foam and a su:m37 Secret Repair Set (toner, emulsion and cream).
The only thing missing at this event? Coldplay’s Magic song. (Call it magic, call it true… Call it magic, when I’m with you)
See you at our next Shape event!
