For eczema sufferers, finding a moisturiser that properly does its job without aggravating or stinging skin is like hitting the jackpot. Anyone who suffers from eczema can tell you just how frustrating the itching and irritation can be. Suu Balm ($19.90 for 75ml, $49.90 for 350ml)
Formulated by Dr Tey Hong Liang from the National Skin Centre, this is a favourite among fellow eczema sufferers as it contains menthol to combat itchiness and ceramides to hydrate and repair skin. The non-sticky cream applies on smoothly and gives a cooling effect to skin – hooray, no more scratching! Suu Balm is available at leading pharmacies and online.

La Roche-Posay Lipikar Gel-Fluide ($29.90 for 400ml)
La Roche-Posay’s signature thermal spring water is the main ingredient in this body moisturiser. It is naturally rich in selenium and has soothing, antioxidant properties. Upon application, the gel also forms a film on skin to seal in moisture and block out external irritants.
Those suffering from drier skin can also consider the La Roche-Posay Baume AP+, which has a thicker consistency to provide longer hydration. Both formulas are gentle enough to use on babies and children as well. La Roche-Posay is available at leading pharmacies and online.
Curel Moisture Face Care Range (prices from $19.80)
Dr Mark Tang, a consultant dermatologist at The Skin Specialists & Laser Clinic, Mount Alvernia Medical Centre, says that a key ingredient to look for in eczema-relief products is ceramides. “The lack of ceramides in the skin leads to a damaged skin barrier which makes it more susceptible to external irritants and allergens. This results in red, dry and itchy skin. This inflammation can further decrease the ceramides in the skin, leading to a vicious cycle of skin barrier disruption, hypersensitivity and inflammation.”
You’ll be happy to know that the entire Curel Moisture Face Care Range is formulated with ceramides to strengthen skin’s barrier function. The products are also infused with eucalyptus extract to boost skin’s ability to produce ceramides.
The Curel Moisture Face Care Range is available at the National Skin Centre, leading pharmacies and supermarkets.
