1. Statement jewellery
Do you really need to wear those chandelier earrings and five chunky metallic bangles? Save the bother and pack them in your suitcase instead.
Wear one if you absolutely must, but just know you’ll have to take it off – again, and again. Instead, go for a well-fitting pair of pants and leave the metal accessories for another day.
3. Tricky shoes
Gladiator sandals, knee-high boots, multi-buckled anything, vertiginous heels – we’re looking at you. You’ll need to take them off for security, you’ll never make a late run to the gate, plus feet sometimes swell mid-flight. Comfortable shoes rule, but they don’t need to be boring.
4. Complicated hairstyles
Yes, even hair can hinder you at airport security as a head filled with bobby pins could set off the metal detectors. Leave the sophisticated up-dos for after you land.
5. Oversized baggy outfits
Super roomy outfits might lead some to wonder what you might be hiding under all that extra bulk. Keep it sleek and simple.
6. It’s what’s inside that counts
Underclothes with metallic details and body piercings should be carefully considered when it comes to flying. Metal that you can’t easily remove in public can leave you open to extra security attention and embarrassing moments.
7. Controversial messages
Politically incorrect slogans and provocative images – ask yourself, “Would grandma approve?”. If the answer is no, leave it at home. Airport checkpoints are not the place for jokes in bad taste.
8. Dirty, scruffy clothes
There are a lot of people in very close quarters on an aircraft. Respect your fellow passengers and jump on board clean and smart.
