Kikki.k’s founder Kristina Karlsson is a living embodiment of her inspirational products.
If you are a fan of Kikki.k’s adorable homeware and stationery, you should know that they are inspired by founder Kristina Karlsson’s beliefs and way of life. Last week, we got the privilege to be part of a cozy dinner graced by Kristina herself. She shared with us the importance of self-love and setting time aside for yourself, especially if you’re a workaholic. Even if you love your job, your whole life shouldn’t revolve around work. Here are the inspirational tips we picked out for you to start living life a little differently, or if you like, the Kikki.k way.
1. Sleep well
In light of Kikki.k’s latest collection More Sleep Please, the first message delivered is to never compromise on sleep. “If I want to lead a healthy and good life, something has to give and I don’t want that to be my health,” says Kristina. While this has probably been preached to you countless times, chances are you are still not taking measures to ensure that you get quality sleep. Start sleeping well before it takes a toll on your body. If you do not get enough sleep, there will be serious repercussions to your health, plus you won’t be able to reap the benefits of your hard work. Here are natural remedies you can try to help you fall asleep.
2. Find time for yourself
We often lament about how little time we have. But it is all about time management and priorities. For Kristina, her ‘me days’ are Sundays where she ensures she has no appointments, not even to meet friends. She enjoys waking up to a cup of tea in bed, reading and going for a walk. “That works for me but your Sunday might be different. It’s whatever you want your perfect day to be,” she says. Choose one day of the week and make that day the perfect one for yourself.
3. Create your perfect day, week and year
To follow up on creating a perfect day, extend it to creating your perfect week. Set goals and priorities both at work and at home. For example, Kristina’s perfect week consists of creative Mondays where she dedicates time to her creative work and Fridays are the days she will be present for her children’s school assembly. These little steps will help you slowly cultivate a more fulfilling life that extends beyond work.
4. Find your holy hour
According to Kristina, she gets the most work done daily from 9am to 10.30am. During this 90 minutes, she tunes out all distractions and focuses on being productive. She urges everyone to find your own productive window of time and you will be amazed by how much you can accomplish. Yes, that means not even checking your phone. This will save you a lot of time and perhaps help you to get out of your frequent OTs.
5. Review your week
Many of us do not take the time to reflect enough. You will be surprised by how much such weekly reflections can impact your life. Thinking about what you could have said no to, and what went well gives you the room to constantly improve.
6. The Daily 4 ‘G’s
The 4 ‘G ’s stand for something you are grateful for, your goal for tomorrow, something good that happened and gram, which is a visual you may have or would like to capture. This is something Kristina and her family share with each other whenever they can over dinner. “When you start doing this every day, you will make a conscious effort to make sure you have more of such highlights in your life,” she says.
7. Keep inspiring yourself
Instead of living your life stuck in a routine, take time to experience novelty. This can be done in many ways. It can be something as simple as visiting a new cafe or meeting people. Even meeting a friend you haven’t connected with in a long while counts for something.
