When it comes to shaving, there are so many old tales and myths that we’ve all heard. Find out what’s true and what’s not.
Myth 1: A new razor blade is worse than an old one
Newer is always better. Using an old razor will make you more prone to nicks and cuts. And if it’s rusty, it can cause skin irritations too. Plus, we often leave our shavers in the damp bathroom-which is the favourite hangout spot for bacteria and mould. It is recommended to replace your blade at least every seven to 10 days.
Myth 2: Shaving makes your hair grow back coarser and faster
Think about it: if this was true, we could shave off our eyebrows to get thicker and fuller brows? It doesn’t work that way. The nature of our hair is mostly based on genetics and hormonal changes, there’s nothing we can really do to change it. So if the worry of having thicker and darker hair is what’s stopping you from shaving, there’s no reason to hold back anymore.
Myth 3: Shaving repeatedly over the same area and using more pressure gives you a cleaner shave
First of all, shaving over the same spot repeatedly won’t help to give you a cleaner shave. It’ll only irritate your skin. Also, using more force while shaving won’t be of help either. You’ll just be more prone to cuts. If it’s becoming a challenge for you to remove hairs, it’s probably just a sign to change your blade.
Myth 4: Shaving Daily is bad for the skin
As long as you have a good razor and shaving cream, this should not be a cause of worry for you. Your shaving frequency is really a personal preference. Shaving daily is perfectly alright. But if your skin is inflamed it’ll be best to let your skin rest.
Myth 5: Shaving is equivalent to exfoliating as well
Shaving may help to remove some of your dead skin, but these are absolutely two different steps. For a smooth and clean shave, it’s recommended to exfoliate before shaving.
