You’re already following an impressive skincare regime, yet your visage still looks dull and lacklustre. What gives? In a bustling city like Singapore, we’re exposed to smoke, car exhaust and the occasional bout of haze. These microscopic bits of dirt can clog pores and lead to breakouts. To keep your complexion clear, Vanda recommends double cleansing in the evenings and exfoliating once or twice weekly. This prevents any nasties from getting embedded in your pores and wreaking havoc on your skin. (Also read: Skincare tips for hazy days)
When you binge on junk food, it shows. Simply put, “having a poor diet leads to the consumption of toxins,” says Vanda. She adds that ingesting salt, sugar, caffeine and fizzy drinks can lead to dehydrated, puffy and lacklustre skin. Instead, fill your plate with whole grains, fruit and vegetables, and remember to drink up as well.
Tension and worry
There’s no escaping the many damaging effects of stress. When we’re under high amounts of pressure, our bodies may not absorb water and vital nutrients as effectively, says Vanda. This can leave the skin parched and prone to blemishes. The next time you feel your cortisol levels rising, take a deep breath, steel yourself, and tackle tasks one at a time.
