A radiant complexion is something many of us strive to achieve through our lifestyle (getting enough sleep, staying hydrated, eating healthy foods, and so forth), and using beauty products.
Now here’s another way to get gorgeous skin– and it doesn’t cost a cent.
I recently learnt about a meditation to regain youthfulness from LA-based kundalini yoga teacher Guru Jagat, who was in town recently to conduct a mass meditation session at Capella Singapore in honour of Global Wellness Day. She runs her own outfit in Venice, California, and Palma de Mallorca, Spain, called the RA MA Institute for Applied Yogic Science and Technology.
She’s not just any kundalini yoga teacher. She’s a kundalini rockstar who counts prominent Hollywood celebs like Alicia Keys, Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn.
I had the chance to meet her at a closed-door media event, where she led us in a meditation and yoga session.

It was my first time doing kundalini yoga and I liked that it wasn’t about executing pretty poses. In Guru Jagat’s words, it’s about “quick, effective, breath-driven exercises, short meditations and simple poses”. What’s great – and she advocates this wholeheartedly – is that most of the techniques can be done anywhere, anytime. With minimum effort, you can reap kundalini yoga’s transformative effects.

I felt so calm after the session (I came in frazzled and stressed out as I had been stuck in a traffic jam), that I figured that kundalini yoga is worth exploring further. Also, Guru Jagat was down-to-earth, funny and easy to relate to – basically overflowing with good vibes, so there must be goodness in the kundalini practice.
She recommended this meditation to regain youthfulness as a great one for beginners to start with. The technique is also in her latest book (details below).
The meditation is also said to regenerate the muscles and make grey hair disappear (yes, really!). You can also expect a healthy sex life and a good diet as its positive effects.
Here’s how to do it:
Posture: Sit in easy pose (simple cross-legged pose), hands on your knees with the tips of your fingers and thumbs touching. Roll the back of your tongue backward in your mouth so that the bottom of your tongue is flat against the roof of your mouth. Begin sucking on your tongue. In a short time, a nectar-like taste will start to flow – just drink it. (The rationale: Our saliva is a powerful endocrine secretion that carries antibodies and proteins that increase health and youthfulness.)
Eyes: Closed and focused at the brow point.
Breath: Breathe normally. Time: 3 minutes, 11 minutes, or 31 minutes. Increase the length of time with practise.
To end: Inhale, exhale, and relax.
