It’s a hot day and you desperately need to cool down. But we’re here to tell you to pause if your instinct is to reach out for an iced glass of water.
That’s because cold water actually heats your body up instead of cooling it down. Our digestive system is programmed to regulate the temperature in our digestive systems. Since the natural human body temperature is 37 degrees, any cold substances entering our digestive tract have to be heated up to have the same temperature as our bodies.
Ironically, cold water makes us feel even warmer in this sunny island’s heat because our bodies produce heat to regulate the temperature of the cold water.
