Weekend brunch is all about indulgence – letting go of time and the usual worries of the weekday, giving yourself permission to cheat on your diet, and savouring the company of those you love.
Food-wise, is there a healthy yet delicious way to indulge? Well, we’d like to think so, especially if the menu is as well-rounded as Luxe Singapore’s.
At the Keong Saik Road outpost of one of Sydney’s most beloved cafes, the revamped brunch menu is simple and comparatively limited, but balanced. As with many brunch places here, most of the items are centered around eggs, but the star of the menu really is the luscious, and terribly healthy-sounding, quinoa and chia seed pudding with coconut yogurt and seasonal fruit ($16). The yogurt (that’s Coyo, by the way) is fragrant yet light and tart, with the quinoa and chia seed adding a gelatinous texture that has a bit of bite. Paired with bananas and red dragonfruit, this is one nutrient-packed dish that can be quite filling. We suggest that you split a portion as an appetiser so that you can have a warm dish too.
For that, we would pick the mushroom breakfast with goat feta and rocket ($20). Toasted handmade sourdough slathered with creamy goat feta is piled high with sauteed mushrooms and topped with two poached eggs and a generous handful of peppery rocket. Mmmm. Salty, sharp, milky, savoury, crunchy, soft, chewy – the flavours and textures make for a rockin’ party in the mouth.
The atmosphere at the 5-month-old establishment – clean lines, muted colours, lots of natural light, potted succulents and flowers in tall vases – is warm and comforting. Perfect for some well-deserved relaxation.
Before you go, here’s one last tip: Order a side of their famed pork and fennel sausage ($6). Hey, it’s the weekend, after all.
(Technically, you don’t have to wait till the weekend as Luxe Singapore’s brunch selections are available on weekday mornings as well.)
