Kamiakari rice has been exported out of Japan for the first time, and this carb is particularly great for your health.
Japanese rice is a popular favourite among many because of its soft and fluffy texture. Compared to its Thai, Chinese or European counterparts, Japanese rice tastes sweeter and more aromatic and can be easily used in different cuisines, which makes it a very versatile grain.
And now, this new launch from rice specialty store Tawaraya Singapore gives you extra reason to stock Japanese rice in your pantry.
Kamiakari rice has an embryo that is three times bigger than that of regular rice – this means you’re getting thrice the amount of nutrients including vitamins B and E, dietary fire and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Some studies have found that GABA can lower blood pressure, improve kidney and brain functions, and even improve insomnia.
Kamiakari rice is grown in a small village in Nagano prefecture. They do not use fertilisers or agrochemicals, so you can be sure your grains are toxins-free. From sowing to transplanting, weeding, and harvesting, everything is done by hand in a span of about 180 days. Only four tonnes of Kamiakari rice is produced each year.
Plus, you can customise the taste and texture of your Kamiakari rice grains – choose from white rice, 70 per cent polished, 50 per cent polished or brown rice for maximum nutrients. If you don’t fancy conventional brown rice that tends to be rough and bland, you’ll be happy to know that Kamiakari brown rice is soft and sweet.
Precision is key when it comes to getting the best flavours, so be sure to measure the correct amount of water for cooking. Using distilled or filtered water will give you nice, glistening rice. Also, when cooking harder grains, soak them for 30 minutes to soften before cooking.
Kamiakari rice is available at 2kg for $38 and 5kg for $88 at www.tawaraya.com.sg. It will also be available on RedMart soon. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 9061-6524.
