This cute little Fuji-san tastes every bit as dreamy as the name suggests. The dark chocolate tart base is layered with bittersweet matcha-and-white-chocolate ganache and azuki beans, and capped with snowy whipped cream. And if you fancy it for a party or birthday celebration, it’s a mere $46 for a whole 20cm tart.

This casual mod Sin restaurant at Marina Square may not look like they have any serious pastry magic going on, but their Matcha Swiss Roll is pretty darn good. We loved that they’re generous with the matcha cream ─ just bitter enough to be pleasant ─ and the yielding texture of the swiss roll. And seriously, $4? That’s a steal.
We’ve nursed too many disappointments from thin, lacklustre matcha drinks, so we were thrilled that bottled matcha drink from this humble online matcha specialist ─ yes, they deliver! ─ is fragrant, and juggles the bitter and sweet notes well. The texture is more milk tea than latte, but we’re not complaining. They do pop-up events too, so keep tabs on their Facebook page.
Hojicha (toasted green tea) desserts are quite a big thing in Kyoto, but the handful of shops that do hojicha treats here tend to be rather… meh. But this, we’re happy to report, is on the mark with a full, toasty aroma.

It’s one of the best spots in town for matcha soft-serve, but why stop at just soft-serves when you can have parfaits? It’s hard to pick favourites because all the combinations are so good ─ the chewy shiratama balls, the delicate matcha chiffon, the sweet red bean paste etc. Our strategy is to go with the girlfriends and share a couple of different desserts.
We’re late to the marvel of matcha jam, but once we’ve started, there’s no resisting its silky, bittersweet allure. We’re making up for lost time by adding a good dollop of it to everything – ice cream, chiffon cakes, froyo, and even toast. (It’s out of stock right now, but fret not, it’ll be back by the end of the month.)

Looking like a piece of abstract art, the cosy cafe’s signature two-toned drink is luscious with an intense matcha kick. Have it with steamed milk for a creamy mouthfeel, or opt for the iced version for a cooling sense of zen on a warm day.

Chic and simple, this Japanese-inspired French pastry gingerly stacks 20 lacy, thin crepes, with brushes of green tea cream between the layers. It’s ethereal and cloud-like, and we’re hopelessly smitten. Or go the whole nine inches and get the party-sized version at $85.

The food’s middling, but keep your sight trained on the matcha thick toast. Fluffy and crisp, it’s laden with generous scoops of matcha and vanilla ice cream, ogura (red bean paste), mochi, whipped cream, and a drizzle of honey – bring reinforcements to share this gargantuan dessert with.
Korean bingsu cafes are dime a dozen, but O’ma Spoon is one of the few chains here that can lay claim to having delicate, snowflake-like shaved “ice” creations – it’s actually fresh milk that’s flash frozen in a specially imported machine. Their Green Tea Bingsu is a melange of flavours and textures with matcha powder, red bean, matcha ice cream, almond flakes and cashew nuts.

Forget about molten chocolate cakes. Here, the cliched French fondant gets a Japanese makeover with a green tea-infused white chocolate centre that oozes out decadently. Mop up all of the emerald green lava with the accompanying vanilla ice cream and azuki beans.

This cosy tiramisu nook in the basement of Clarke Quay serves up a funky range of flavoured tiramisu, but it’s the green tea slices that we’re dreaming about: Poignant with the essence of matcha, and with a light, moist crumb.
