Try these moves with your tot! By Estelle Low
Mums, you know how it’s like with kids. They are bursting with energy, sitting down one minute and running about the next.
As a mum to a 19-month-old, I find myself unusually happy to stay home on weekends. With necessities within reach (i.e. water, food, toilet), it’s so much easier to look after her.
At 19 months, my baby Gabrielle is able to do most movements adults can: crawl, walk, run, squat. She can’t jump or hop yet, but I’m sure she will learn to do that very soon.
She’s also very eager to learn new tricks, like doing a downward dog yoga pose, a supported shoulder stand (asking me to hold her legs up), and even getting into a lying-down split! Kids are amazingly flexible.
To put her energy to good use (plus spend quality time together), I decided to “teach” Gabrielle some of my favourite exercises.
I made sure there was sufficient space to move about, with no dangerous objects lying around. I then proceeded to do those exercises, and waited to see if she would join me.
She was definitely thrilled to be part of my workout, to say the least!
