With responsive ride foam and breathable support, the featherlight Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit will give you a new kind of runner’s high.
If you’re looking for a stylish shoe that you can run everywhere in, check out Nike’s new Zoom Fly Flyknit ($239). It has the responsiveness of the Nike React, the glove-like fit of a Flyknit and optimum support, thanks to the full-length carbon-fibre plate that can also be found in the Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4 per cent.
The review pair is the classic black with a neon orange tick, a light grey sole and bright coral accents. It also comes in a light blue shade with a teal tick and a white base.
Designed for speed, the Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit is the only pair in the Zoom series that features both the carbon-fibre launchpad and a soft springy cushioning.
When I first took these out of the box, I was surprised by its weight – or lack of – as the pair came in at about 200g for a Euro size 39. Knowing the comfortable close-fit of the Flyknit, this fit like a stretchy sock when I first put them on.
A frequent problem I have with running is cramps or aches from not getting enough arch support. But with these, my short 2km outdoor run was done with ease. Moving from heel to toe has never been easier because of the 10mm heel drop. It felt like my feet were floating as I bounced off the ground.
The unique traction pattern (with different shapes and sizes) provided stability and help with propulsion. The run was also equally comfortable on concrete, grass and rubber track.
What’s also great about this pair is you can omit the socks. Despite my tendency to sweat buckets, the Zoom Fly Flyknit was breathable enough to keep my feet dry.
While the Nike swoosh is big and bold, I appreciate the understated design for the rest of the shoe.
Value for money: 4/5
The Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit provides superior style, support, and speed. If you normally find running shoes heavy, uncomfortable, or unsupportive, try this pair. It goes as fast as it sounds. Plus, it’s super chic.
