Aimed at giving fitness enthusiasts more variety in their workouts and better bang for their buck, a new type of gym membership is now available in Singapore. Users may sign up for a pass – offered by different operators – to try out as many sessions across several different studios as they’d like within a month.
So if you’ve previously hesitated to sign up for a gym because it was too long-term or too big a commitment (especially if you’re keen on only one or two classes at a single gym), this new gym membership model might just be right up your alley. Now the question is: which pass suits you best?
If you are looking to make friends and join a community of similarly active-types, sign up for GUAVAPASS.
How it began Having moved from die-hard fitness capitals New York and Santa Monica, founders Robert Pachter and Jeffrey Liu believe workouts should be fun. But they found standard gym memberships too restrictive and bemoaned the lack of a centralised listing of the best boutique studios – and started Guavapass. The team is really passionate about fitness and includes two certified yoga instructors. “We’re just like our members – busy people who want to get a great workout, explore the city, and meet other fitness lovers!” Jeffrey says. Guavapass will be launching in Bangkok, Hong Kong and Dubai soon.
Activities and classes offered Guavapass has over 40 studios currently, with classes running the gamut of pilates, aerobics, functional and strength training as well as bootcamp. Women-only classes are available too. To help members meet their fitness goals, the team also makes recommendations to members on classes to try.
Partner studios include Crucycle, Croyez, R-evolution, Milan Pole Dance – Singapore and Aqua Spin
Membership profile 75 per cent female members, mostly aged 25 to 45 years old
Booking and cancellation policies There is a limit of three classes per studio each month. Class bookings start up to 10 days in advance, until 1 hour before class starts. Fees apply for late cancellation (from $15) and no shows (from $20).
Cost of monthly membership $139 per month
