If your batteries are always flat at the end of the day, it’s best to exercise before the work day is done. Here’s how to make it happen.
There’re so many reasons you should get your workout done early in the day, particularly in the morning. You’re energised, the air is fresh and you get to reward yourself with a scrumptious post-workout breakfast. There’s no better way to start the day.
But we know, distractions and “buts” are everywhere. Here are some easy tips you can try to get your workout done and dusted before the work day ends – and it doesn’t take a chunk of time!
Do a quick HIIT session at home
HIIT is popular for a reason. It burns lots of calories, gives you a great sweat, and it just takes a few minutes. Most plans are so intense that you only need (or are able to) do it for 20 to 30 minutes. That’s not a big change in your sleep schedule. High-intensity workouts increase your metabolism and help you burn extra calories in the following hours, so its best to exercise before work.
Still too much? Try our 8-minute HIIT workout on days that you are crunched for time.

Join Health Promotion Board’s free Sunrise In The City
HPB’s SITC is a free online service where users can sign up for yoga classes. There are time slots throughout the day, with some starting at 7am. Yoga is an invigorating way to start your day if you prefer not avoid a serious sweat sesh just before work. SITC offers classes at multiple studios across Singapore, making it convenient and cheap for everyone. Just remember to sign up early because you don’t want to miss out.
Take up a corporate membership
Ask your HR rep if your company offers gym membership for staff. Alternatively, you can gather a group of like-minded colleagues and check with the gyms for a discounted plan. Most gyms, especially those in the CBD, open early and cater to working adults. Plus, you can conveniently stroll from your workout to the office and skip the crowded commute.
Run or cycle to work
For those lucky enough to have shower facilities at the office, try walking, running or cycling to work. While at it, you can clear your mind with the mild morning rays and clean air. You may need to wake up a wee bit earlier to fit in your workout and shower.
