Yawning after a mid-day meal but can’t slip in a siesta? Instead of taking a quick snooze, sneak in these quick moves recommended by Claudel Kuek, pilates director of Powermoves Pilates in the Park. “They work the arms, legs and abdomen to get blood circulating – and the brain thinking – again,” she says. Stay alert, without even leaving the desk!
1. Easy exercises to beat food coma: Pilates chair twist
Sit on edge of swivel chair. Place palms on desk and keep elbows close to sides. Squeeze knees together tightly and lift feet about three to four inches off floor. Without twisting torso, slowly rotate chair from side to side using abdomen and hips. Do 10 to 20 rotations.
2. Easy exercises to beat food coma: Pilates knee stretch
Sit on edge of swivel chair. Press heels of palms down on chair by sides without raising shoulders; this will help you sit up straight. Lift one knee as high and as long as you can, then extend leg straight in front of you, keeping back upright and abdomen tucked in. Repeat with other leg. Do 10 repetitions.
