After seeing how some kids didn’t have proper footwear for sports, Dipna co-founded In My Shoes.
Having been in athletics for 17 years of her life, Dipna Lim-Prasad fully knows how important a pair of shoes can be. After seeing how some kids don’t have proper footwear for sports, she co-founded In My Shoes in 2017.
In My Shoes is a social initiative that collects donations of new and pre-loved shoes from the public, before cleaning them for underprivileged kids and youths at risk. Wearing the wrong shoes for exercise and sports, especially for kids, can affect their feet structure or even cause premature injuries.
Besides wanting to help kids pursue sports safely, Dipna also hopes to give kids the equal opportunity to own a pair of sports shoes.
Now retired, the 400m hurdles national record holder is a mother of one and is serving as a member of the Singapore National Olympic Council Athletes’ Commission. This year, they organised a series of workshops to help equip athletes with skills to aid their transition to the workforce.
“Sport has given me so much, hence I hope that I can continue to share my love for sport, especially running, to young individuals who can then be inspired and empowered through sport,” she said.
