Determined to make running a mainstay in her fitness routine this year, adidas creator and pilates instructor Eugena Bey clocks her first miles of the year in the new Solar Boost during adidas Runners Singapore’s first-ever Resolution run.
New year, new you? If you, like many others, have set up ambitious resolutions for the year ahead, the odds of succeeding are low. Why? Statistics show that 80 per cent of resolutions fail because they are too vague.
Instead of dreaming up huge milestones that can feel insurmountable, experts say small incremental steps are the way to go. Take it from adidas creator and pilates instructor Eugena Bey who has committed to making running a regular part of her fitness training. Her plan is to run at least twice a week and cross-train on other days.
To kick off her running routine for 2019, Eugena joined members of the adidas Runners Singapore community and other brand creators (including national high jumper and SEA Games 2017 Gold Medallist, Michelle Sng, 987fm Radio DJ Joakim Gomez, actor and host, Danial Ashriq and model Iman Fandi Ahmad) for a rejuvenating Resolution Run. The scenic 5km route took the group from VivoCity to the slopes of Mount Faber and through the greenery of Telok Blangah Hill. The run concluded against the panoramic backdrop of Henderson Wave, where the runners each shared their own fitness resolutions for 2019, and the actions they are taking to fulfil them.
Accompanying and supporting the group was the versatile, well-loved adidas Solar Boost, which now comes in two new colours, Marine for men and Ash Grey for women.
What went down at the Resolution Run
The Resolution Run was equal parts invigorating and challenging. The group sped through varying elevations and terrains, from flat tarmac to staircases and hilly slopes – a route that would have typically sounded warning bells for the feet. Thankfully, the adidas Solar Boost helped the runners maintain their stability with its Tailored Fibre Placement technology, a manufacturing process that lays down fibres into the mid-sole to precisely support the runner. The shoes are also engineered with an updated energy rail to give superior cushioning and comfort.
“Running uphill is quite new to me, so I was impressed with how comfortable the Solar Boost was and how fast it took to break it in during the first run. It put a bit of a bounce in my stride while I was running upslope, and made it a comfortable run even along steep parts of the route,” says Eugena.
She adds, “I have weak ankles from my past injuries, so the Solar Boost’s secure fit around my ankles and the front of my feet helps provide just the right amount of support.”
And at just 295 g a pair (for men’s UK8.5), the adidas Solar Boost is super lightweight. The fresh new Marine and Ash Grey colourways also help breathe new life into any run.
Ready to run?
If you’re looking to kick start your running routine or reach your fitness goals, joining the adidas Runners Singapore (a 3,000-strong community) may be the trick to keeping yourself driven throughout the year. The group holds fortnightly runs on Saturday mornings with about 80 to 100 members each time. The group is split to cater to different running abilities.
“My favourite part of the event was definitely the experience of running as a community and conquering the Resolution Run together!” says Eugena who adds, “They’re an inspiration and source of motivation for me – even along the more challenging parts of the run – and are a big part of the reason why I enjoy running.”
For those who feel intimidated by running, Eugena’s advice is to start slow. “Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t hit certain timings or distance goals at the start. The key is to be consistent and find things that motivate you. I also created a playlist of all my favourite tracks to listen to while I run, which makes it more enjoyable!”
