Fact: Stretching is only one element of yoga. It also incorporates other components like strengthening and balance.
Myth 4: You need a mat to practise yoga
Fact: As long as the surface isn’t too hard and doesn’t cause any discomfort, you are free to practise yoga anywhere you like.
Myth 5: Yoga is for the ultra-spiritual
Fact: While yoga is indeed a deeply spiritual practice, it is not necessary for you to identify as spiritual to do yoga. Yoga is for anyone who is looking to be more focused or simply to get their bodies moving.
Myth 6: Yoga is expensive
Fact: Many yoga studios offer special rates or free trials to new students. Some yoga studios even conduct free classes at events or community centres. There are also various online classes and video tutorials available for free.
Myth 7: Yoga is only for people who are fit and thin
Fact: With all the intimidating photos of fitness models practising yoga on social media, you may be deterred from giving it a shot. But yoga is for everyone who is willing to try. It will not only encourage you to accept yourself, it can also contribute to your health and fitness.
