Simply having a scale might help.
We’re sure you have wished for a divine weight loss intervention at one point of your life. What if we told you that spending just 5 seconds a day with this simple step might help boost your weight loss efforts?
Researchers from The University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University conducted a two-year study with 294 female participants. One group was asked to check their weight daily while the others did not. The results revealed that the group who checked their weight daily lost significant weight although they were not part of a weight loss program- all they did was use the scale!
Meghan Butryn, a professor at Drexel University suggested that regularly seeing your weight instills healthy eating and exercise habits because participants see the satisfying results that their healthy habits bring. Alternatively, participants that see their weight increasing on the scale consciously use that as a motivation to change their habits.
Conversely, the participants who did not weigh themselves daily failed to lose significant weight after the two-year period.
Do note that obsessively checking your weight is not healthy either! This is because your weight fluctuates throughout the day depending on your eating times and bowel movements. Checking it every morning helps you kickstart the day and it also serves as a good gauge to check if your eating and workout habits are doing you good.
