Where have the yoga instructors gone?
Like many yoga devotees, marketing manager Tan Hsu Ching, 37, wouldn’t miss her ashtanga sessions for anything – until the small yoga studio she has been faithfully going to for three years closed for good. It is a scenario that many others have faced. In recent years, independent shalas (a school or place to study yoga) like Gaia Yoga Centre, Kyroga, Inner Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga Singapore, Om+ Studio, Momentum Yoga, and Green Bamboo Yoga have all rolled up their mats. Being a one-man operation, the studio-operators-cum-instructors behind such establishments face many constraints.
