SHAPE RUN SINGAPORE HITS TARGET IN RECORD TIME
26th April 2009

Shape, the complete mind and body magazine for women, pioneered the first women-only run in Singapore in 2006. The event is also held in Malaysia and Thailand, making Shape Run the first women-only regional run.

This year, Shape Run is being held to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Shape. The overwhelming response is credited to Shape Run's friendly online registration format. Holding the registration launch event in the heart of Orchard Road added another convenient avenue for runners to sign up.

Allen Loh, Managing Director of SPH Magazines, said: "We were confident of a favourable response but to close registration in two days is unprecedented. The participants' strong demand sends out a clear message that Shape Run is the run that women want. This also affirms Shape's reputation as an organiser of quality runs."

Shape Run's event presenter, Subaru, which is distributed by Motor Image Group, is buoyed by this year's registration outcome as they were with the previous year's. Glenn Tan, Group Chief Executive of Motor Image Group, said: "We are very happy with the phenomenal response to this year's Shape Run. It is an excellent indication of the popularity amongst women for such exclusive sporting events. With the rapidly growing interest in this event and the focus on leading a healthier lifestyle, I am sure Shape Run will grow into a race that will be well sought after in the region."

Shape Run's co-presenter, Nike, shares the confidence in the run's success. Stanley Goh, Country Director of Nike Singapore, said: "The amazingly enthusiastic response to this year's Shape Run attests to the growth of Singapore's running community. In particular, we recognise that female participation in the sport has become more active than ever. This positive head-start is testament of our efforts to make the run even more successful and vibrant than that of the previous years."

Event presenter Subaru, co-presenter Nike Running, and other major sponsors will also be riding high on the run's multiple-channel publicity engine. This includes the Shape Run carnival held a week before the event at Marina Square, where 8,000 participants will congregate to collect their runners' bibs and enjoy discounts off fitness, health and wellness products and services.

There will be press ads, events, magazines, radio and outdoor media. Publicity mileage for sponsors will stretch beyond Singapore with event ads in the Thai and Malaysian editions of Shape. Publicity platforms this year also includes interactive tools such as frequent eDMs that carry training tips, event updates and promotion messages to all participating runners.
