A new take on retail therapy
If a fabulous new pair of shoes is your answer to a tough day, you probably won’t be surprised by a new study in the journal, Psychological Science, that found you spend more on an item when you’re feeling down – up to 300 per cent more! “We sometimes associate material possessions with our sense of self,” says co-author Professor Jennifer Lerner. “So when you’re sad, you may be willing to pay a higher price to make yourself feel better.”
