After a long and hectic day, sometimes all you want to do is camp out on your sofa while watching TV. But the best way to boost your mood is actually to get up and start moving. By moving, we don’t mean vigorous heart-pumping exercises; we mean engaging in light or moderate physical activity.
According to a study from the University of Connecticut, researchers found that the best way for people who lead a sedentary lifestyle to improve your well-being is to simply get out of your chair.
A total of 419 healthy adults were gathered for the study. Participants had to wear accelerometers on their hips to track their physical activity over a span of four days and were asked about their daily habits as well as their psychological well-being.
The results showed that those who sat around and did nothing were the least happy. Also, participants who were usually inactive showed the greatest improvement in their overall well-being after engaging in light or moderate physical activity.
So the next time you’re having a bad day, get out of the house instead of slumping onto your couch. Whether it’s a stroll in the park or at the mall, enjoy a simple leisure activity to lift your spirits.
