Long live sandwich
Packing a yummy sandwich for a healthy lunch at work is easy enough, isn’t it? Not really, if you aren’t using the right ingredients. Bakerzin chef Wu Junjie shows you how to ensure that your sandwich stays fresh till it goes into your mouth.
1. Choose the right dough
Opt for hard crust bread such as baguette and bagels so that it does not absorb the moisture from the sandwich filling readily.
2. Know your vegetables
Lay a full or two half lettuce leaves on the base of your sandwich before adding the filling and sauce. The lettuce base prevents the moisture from the filling from soaking the bread. To make it even less soggy, replace tomato slices with chunks of baked pumpkin.
3. Thicker is better
Cut ingredients into wedges instead of thin slices. This retains the moisture and freshness of the ingredients so that your sandwich does not turn soggy.
4. Keep cool
It is best to keep your sandwich in a chiller if you are not eating it at once. This slows down the growth of bacteria in the ingredients and keeps it fresh for longer hours.
